“Strong Column and Weak Beam” in Earthquakes

 | Post date: 2022/09/4 |
Using different possibilities, researchers at the Amirkabir University of Technology proposed a standard for quantifying strong column and weak beam functions.
“The columns should be more endurable compared to beams,” said Mohamad Ghorbanzadeh. This study showed that the soil's behavior has a noticeable positive influence on the possibility of structures’ collapse, especially for tall buildings.
“The proposed possible methods,” he continued “can have considerable effects on improving the analysis of seismic destruction and decreasing the volume of dynamic analysis needed to estimate the vulnerability of buildings against earthquake.”
The supervisors of this project were Dr. Faramarz Koshnodian, and Dr. Toraj Thaqikjani, faculty members of the Amirkabir University of Technology.
