Workshop on Fire Safety
Title | Fire Safety |
Duration | 16 hrs. (3 Days) |
Name and position of instructor | Dr. Behrouz Behnam(Assistant Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran) |
Venue | Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran |
Date | Around January-February, 2020 |
Fee | 450$ |
■ Aims & objectives: Over the history of fire codes, two different paradigms have emerged, signifying profoundly different approaches to form and function: prescriptive-based codes and performance-based codes. While the former has a very long history, the latter is somewhat new. The workshop planned here is to highlight the main differences between these two different codes and to address their reliability when specifically employed in tall structures.
Row | Outline and syllabus | Duration |
1 | Historic fires, different fire codes, and compromise solutions | 3 hrs. (day 1) |
2 | Applications of prescriptive-based fire codes | 3 hrs. (day 1) |
3 | Design challenges of performance-based fire codes | 3 hrs. (day 2) |
4 | Heat transfer mechanism and standard fires | 3 hrs. (day 2) |
5 | Natural, progressive, and localized fires | 2 hrs. (day 3) |
6 | Traveling fires, failure criteria, and case studies | 2 hrs. (day 3) |
■ Registration method
Applicants should initially register at kish.aut.ac.ir (short-courses menu) and upload their scans in good quality. After registration, the tracking code is allocated to the applicant, which must be stored and provided to the University’s affiliate. Applicants must choose the option (Short-course on Fire Safety) in the registration process. After registering, the University will contact them and set the final time, location, and method of tuition fee payment.
